You know you´re chilean when....

I just thought i´d put this up... stolen from another blog. I laughed so hard.... for all my chilean exchange friends out there....

of course these are generalizations (?) about chile so yeah....

You know you´re chilean when........

-Your speech is filled with words like: cachai, weon, carrete, filo, po, fome, güata, and bakan.
-You know what flaite is and how to spot and imitate them.
-You're ALWAYS late. I was 10 minutes late once, and actually proud of myself because yes, here, 10 minutes late is actually fairly early.
-Argentinos are pesados. That's just how it is.
-You also don't fall well to Bolivians or peruanos.
-You understand what "falling well" is.
-You'd probably die without bread. For serious.
-You've seen the large group of people fighting for the fresh bread as it comes out of the ovens in the supermarket.
-You've been part of that group of people.
-You find yourself walking out into the street, even if there's a car coming, because you know they will always stop for you.
-Catcalls are a normal, daily thing.
-You can recognize gringos a mile away....but no longer include yourself as one of them.
-You demand things, don't ask. Such as food. You will take food from someone while "asking" them to borrow you it.
-Every desert you eat includes manjar.
-You drink pap or kapo
-You drink tea. Every day. For onces, of course.
-People going out a lot is normal. People who don't go out a lot is kind of....strange.
-You are overly honest/blunt with people.
-Most things you eat come with mayonaise. ick. Or palta.
-It's strange for anyone over the age of 11 to not have a cell phone.
-You know that colo-colo is a fútbol team.
-You root for either colo-colo, cobrelua(just butchered that, I know), o la U.
-You know the chants for all the futbol teams.
-Flushing toilet paper just seems.....weird.
-Seeing a house without a fence around it is utterly shocking. Even more so if it has two stories.
-Everything you eat either has salt or lemon on it. Everything.
-You eat ice cream very often, even when it's cold, and know that you can find somewhere that sells ice cream every corner or so.
-You have a favorite brand of pisco.
-You can dance the cueca. Or be cool like Simon, and just clap when cueca music is played(even if it's in a store jaja)
-Not seeing mountains is a cause for concern.
-You can tell that someone's NOT from Chile because they speak slower and clearly(aka, they're easier to understand)
-To be vegetarian is just....odd.

jijijijiji, basically this post was utterly pointless.... but it entertained me so i thought i´d share it.

Sacando Moras

Above is a picture of me on the camping trip.... looking well... mountainish haha.

The next day we went to los queñes which is another mountain location. The river water was a lot colder there. A few other kids form school were there on vacations so we all went swimming together. The area is like a litle mountains town where a lot of people from curico have cabins. It´s easy to run into people. There was an arcade and food stands. It´s kinda like a boardwalk in the mountains.

A few days ago we made black berry jam. Outside of the house there is a huge line of bushes. They are so high that with a truck and ladder we still dont reach the top. We went out and picked berries for hours and came home with 3 huge bowls of berries. While scanning the blocks-worth of bushes, we found plums and grapes growing together. This is right next to our neighbors apple and pear grove. After a little berry fight, we bowled them with sugar all evening and ended up with 11 HUGE jars of jam. Ive never made so much before. And yesterday they went out and made some more. Right below is a picture of me wit half of the berries and the plums in my shirt. (we ran out of containers :))

Yesterday we also made lemon pie, cake and doughnut things, just cuz we wanted to. Im really loving the summer food here and im learning how to make a lot of good deserts.

Tomorrow, it looks like we are going to the beach which should be a lot of fun.

In a few weeks i think i will be going to the north.....

Love you guys and miss you!!!!! Ive been here 6 months now.

Im the only exchanger in Curicó right now but some more come in a about 2

weeks.

Andes Camping

This last week my family and I went to the mountains to go camping. My grandparents, cousins, uncles and aunts all went! So we were a lot of people! The location was beautiful (obviously because im in CHILE), the were mountains on all sides and a crystal clear river for swimming. Everyday we went to the beach and swam in the swimming hole. Ill put pictures up later :)

So, thats where ive been this last weeek. In the mountains eating sopaipillas and handmade, fire cooked bread. In the night times we played musical chairs and three step all together. Rough huh? But now we are home, tomorrow we leave for a different mountain location in the Queñes! Most of the uncles and aunst and counsins are still here in the house. There is a lot going on! Ill write more later but that´s my update for now.
